Fire Safety SignFire safety signs are required to enable occupants to safety make their way out of a building in an emergency. If used as advised, a fire safety sign is a cost effective way of increasing health and safety at work complience and of course making your workplace safe for your occupants and employees. Most workplaces need to display a range of fire safety signs throughout the building the most common of these being; fire extinguisher identification signs located above any fire extinguishers, no smoking signs and fire action notices displayed throughout the building, fire exit signs which should be placed along escape routes or whenever a change of direction to the escape route occurs, and assembly point signs which should mark the emergency meeting point. In all cases, a fire safety sign seeks to ensure that employees and visitors to the building are aware of what to do and where to meet in the event of a fire. Fire safety signs such as these are essential to confirm what employees have already learned in fire safety training, they also function to notify guests to the building of the fire safety procedures. As a general rule, any fire safety sign must comply with BS 5499:Part 1:1990. This relates to general safety signs and fire safety signs and states the correct use of colours, shapes, and symbols which compose safety signs with specific meanings. The British Standard notifies the reader of how to associate a fire safety sign with additional wording and also how to use directional arrows. It applies to all fire exit, fire equipment, other fire safety signs and safe condition safety signs. It also notifies readers of how to work out the size of a fire safety sign or general safety sign required. |
