No Smoking Signs

On 26th March 2006, The Prohibition of Smoking In Certain Premises (Scotland) Regulations 2006 come into force. No smoking signs are therefore essential in the places covered by this law – they are; public places, work places and work vehicles that are wholly or substantially enclosed premises, pubs, restaurants, private clubs, offices, factories, buses, taxis and works vans. Owners and business managers in charge of no smoking premises or vehicles must take measures to ensure that staff, customers or visitors are aware that that they cannot smoke in their premises or vehicle. No smoking signs are the answer to this requirement. Displaying no smoking signs can be a very cost effective way of being seen to comply with this regulation. No smoking signs can be purchased from as little as a couple of pounds, compare this with the potential fine of £2,500 for the persistent offenders of letting people smoke on their premises.

No smoking signs in the format laid down in the regulations must be displayed in the premises or vehicle. No smoking signs must be obviously and permanently displayed to be noticeable and readable to persons approaching the premises or vehicle. The no smoking signs should affirm that it is illegal to smoke in the premises or to knowingly allow smoking there. As well as no smoking signs, a no smoking notice should display the name of the person to whom a complaint should be made in the event of non compliance with the Prohibition of Smoking In certain Premises (Scotland) Regulation) and must be put on show in such a way that it is protected from tampering, deletion or concealment. It will soon be illegal to smoke in all public places England. Many pubs, offices, factories and other public places are already preparing for the implementation date. Most already display no smoking signs in sections. Most restaurants have a no smoking section characterised by no smoking signs and a lack of ashtrays etc. And soon all public places will have to display no smoking signs and a no smoking notice to comply with the forthcoming no smoking laws implementation.
